EL/PL Solicitor

My client is a top 50 law firm with offices throughout the UK. Not only do they take pride in their size but they are immensely proud of the work we carry out for their clients and the culture they provide to their staff.

The Department

Their Casualty team provides a full, expert service in defending public and employers' liability claims, particularly workplace, public sector and claims against the emergency services. Their team is second to none in providing defendant litigation services in these specialist areas.


Main duties and responsibilities

-Specialise in acting on behalf of insurers, insureds, local authorities and police authorities and protecting their interests
-Manage pre lit and litigated EL/PL claims and claims made against the police
-Work as part of a team providing a comprehensive range of legal advice and representation to the team's clients
-Demonstrate strong advocacy skills, and have the necessary flexibility to offer support in the handling of civil claims.
-Assist the Team Manager and other team members with their cases, client development, client training, networking and potentially public speaking where required
-Liaise with various parties such as other solicitors, insurers, experts, counsel and clients
-Control Case Manager diary and action lists
-Draft various documents such as letters, reports and pleadings
-Perform billing duties, ensuring bills are paid in a timely manner
-Satisfy standards of client care in accordance with BCM guidelines and directions
-Complete Client MI procedures
-Achieve set financial and chargeable targets
-Comply with relevant rules, policies and procedures
-Keep up to date with legal developments

Whilst Douglas Scott have advertised this role at 3yrs + PQE, we are open to more senior candidates applying who are looking for an associateship.

Experience of defending litigated and pre lit claims, preferably involving experience of claims made against police authorities

Moreover you will need excellent knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules and litigation
