The firm are the largest specialist provider of commercial legal services to the Public Sector in the UK. Clients include a third of all NHS Bodies and all Local Authorities in England, 30 Housing Associations, and over 100 private sector organisations who serve these sectors. You’ll be joining a team of bright, down-to-earth lawyers providing incisive, practical advice in an open, supportive and stimulating culture.

We are looking for an Associate to play a key role in our IP/IT team to be based in either Birmingham or Leeds. With in-depth, industry-focused expertise, the team advises on the procurement, licensing and supply of tech products and services to a wide range of public and private sector clients. In an increasingly complex and competitive commercial landscape, the team is helping more and more clients keep pace with change – making this an exciting time to join.

The Role

Your work will focus on high-value, long-term projects for the likes of NHS bodies, local authorities and central government agencies, as well as private sector companies. That could mean advising on outsourcing, IT infrastructure and support service agreements on projects as varied as electronic patient records and European grant funding systems.

Your remit will be broad and interesting, giving you extensive client contact from the outset. Throughout, you’ll be well supported in an experienced, inclusive team.

The Individual

The successful candidate will possess the following skills:

  •  5 Years PQE+
  • Good experience in drafting and negotiating contracts (including IT contracts) and have some understanding of corporate structures.
  • Demonstrate a real interest in IT or technology law, with a keenness to develop further.
  • In addition to IT experience you should also have experience on advising on non-contentious intellectual property matters preferably including brand strategies, licensing and exploitation
  • An ability to liaise effectively with clients
  •  Strong business development skills

Additionally, you may have worked in Private Practice, establishing yourself as a reliable and capable commercial lawyer dealing with a breadth of clients. We’d equally like to hear from you if you’ve worked in-house at a tech firm or within the public sector, and are looking to make the move to a law firm. Whatever your background, you must be excellent in front of clients, ready to play an active role in growing the team and eager to drive your career forward in a progressive and ambitious practice.
