One of the top-ranked universities globally, the University of Southampton is an exceptional place where people achieve remarkable things. Outward looking and research intensive, Southampton has gained prestigious recognition for its wide-ranging successes and history of world-changing achievements.

The University is proud of the impact of its research, with our researchers tackling some of society’s most pressing challenges. We have a strong tradition of enabling researchers to commercialise their research through enterprise, licensing and spinouts.  The University is ranked as the top UK university for consultancy income and has a number of highly successful enterprise units. We have created more than 28 spinout companies since 2000, three of whom have been floated on the stock market. The University is a founding member of the SetSquared Partnership which has in 2018 been rated the top university business incubator in the world for the 4th year running.

To fill the role of Intellectual Property Commercialisation Manager, you will need to have considerable commercial acumen, pragmatism and a solid understanding of risk. Commercially astute and technologically aware, you will work with world-class researchers, entrepreneurs, global partners and investors to help shape and develop strong mutually beneficial commercialisation deals.

The Research and Innovation Services department is looking to expand on its existing technology transfer and enterprise capability to increase its agility in concluding deal flow. We are therefore looking for an Intellectual Property Commercialisation Legal Manager to provide professional advice and negotiation of consultancy contracts, enterprise programmes, intellectual property licenses and new company formation documentation in support of its enterprise activities and the commercialisation of its intellectual property portfolio. You will be responsible for the legal support to a wide-ranging portfolio of commercialisation projects and enterprise units.

You will have strong commercial flair and excellent communication skills, be well-organised with the ability to multi-task and to work well as part of a virtual team. You will be a self-starter and enjoy the challenge of making things happen in a fast-moving environment.  If you can handle all this and you have a relevant legal expertise and experience with a proven track record of successful commercialisation support then we would like to hear from you.
