MEDICAL DEFENCE SOLICITORS  & PARALEGALS

The Medical Defence Union (MDU) is the UK’s leading medical defence organisation.

The solicitors of the in-house legal team act on behalf of MDU members in a variety of legal processes, including clinical negligence claims, General Medical Council and General Dental Council proceedings and inquests. They also afford legal advice to members and MDU colleagues on a range of medico-legal issues.

Protecting the interests of healthcare professionals is challenging and stimulating, and opportunities now arise for solicitors of 4 – 8 years pqe to join the legal department to undertake this work.

Applicants should have relevant experience in regulatory/health care law (including GMC/GDC work) and/or clinical negligence.  Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have good judgement to act in the best interests of MDU members and the initiative to manage their own portfolio of legal cases.

The department also seeks to recruit a Paralegal on a one-year fixed term contract, with a view to a permanent position, to assist in this work.  Applicants should have a law degree or GDL, preferably have completed the LPC and have an interest in a career in medical law.

For both the solicitor and paralegal roles, salary will be according to qualifications and experience. Other benefits include contributory pension and private healthcare insurance.

Applicants should apply with a Curriculum Vitae to:
