Legislative Drafter

THE PACKAGE

Salary: up to c£89k (inclusive of 25% annual gratuity, subject to satisfactory performance). Starting salary will depend on qualifications and experience.

Other Benefits: A favourable tax regime, a relocation allowance on appointment, an annual return flights package and 41 days’ annual leave (inclusive of public holidays).

Contract Type: 2 year fixed term appointment initially, with the possibility of extension by mutual agreement.

THE POSITION

The successful applicant would be one of two Legislative Drafters in the Falkland Islands Government’s Legal Services team. The main duties of the post include:

· Drafting primary and secondary legislation for the Falkland Islands Government and the Government of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands

· Working closely with Government decision-makers and advisory bodies in developing new laws

· Helping to review and update the laws of the Falkland Islands and of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands

· Contributing to the improvement of drafting practices and procedures

· Working with and supervising external contract drafters

THE PERSON

Applicants must be a solicitor or barrister with at least five years’ post-qualification experience (including a minimum of three years’ experience in legislative drafting in the United Kingdom, a British Overseas Territory, Ireland or a Commonwealth country).
