Role purpose:  To successfully manage a caseload whilst supporting with the development of the Simpson Millar Family Team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participation in the development, marketing and success of the Family Care Team
  • To conduct a high volume caseload of matters on behalf of clients as directed and in accordance with the Firm’s file management and supervisory policy
  • To maintain a diary and bring up entries in accordance with the firm procedures
  • Ensure compliance with the firm’s Money Laundering Procedure is adhered to
  • Ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act is adhered to
  • Be able to identify efficiencies that can be made across work area to improve ways of working
  • Knowledge of SRI and other regulatory frameworks including but not limited to Data Protection and Money Laundering Procedures
  • Ability to develop, market and ensure success of the Family Law Department
  • Ability to maintain and develop communication between other fee earners, staff and representatives from own function/division and wider Simpson Millar group
  • Ability to build and grow links to external organisations
  • Experience of case supervision of junior staff (although there is not line management responsibility)


  • Member of Children’s Panel currently is essential
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of Family Care work, including procedural, advocacy and practical skills
  • To have experience of and to work effectively with a case management system, databases and normal office IT systems
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant forms and procedures
  • Detailed knowledge of legal aid field, its forms and procedures
