Merseyside Police Headquarters

To assist the Force Solicitor in providing a comprehensive professional legal service to the Chief Constable, Chief Officers and the force.

The post holder must hold a degree level qualification plus professional qualification to solicitor or barrister, and have at least two years' experience in a legal environment and good professional credentials.

Advocacy experience is required with higher rights of audience and advantage.

A good working knowledge of the police service and police related work would be a distinct advantage.

The post holder will have practical skills and experience in civil litigation in the Magistrates' Court and, where appropriate, County / High Court, along with good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate at all levels.

Information gathering skills and the ability to analyse and manage complex and sensitive legal matters.

All the above are necessary to enable the postholder to provide a legal service, including expressing legal views internally and representing the force at court, Tribunals and Inquiries.
