Director - Legal and Democratic Services
Salary: from £85,000-£105,000
Bristol
We’ve got big plans and high hopes for Bristol. It’s a city of ground-breaking innovation – brimming with talented people and bright ideas. So, as its council, we need to be just as forward-thinking. That’s why we’re looking for driven, visionary and positive senior directors to join us. To empower communities. To unlock Bristol’s true potential.
This is your chance to lead our legal and democratic services to ensure proactive and constructive advice is given to all members and officers who are driving our vision and bringing our ideas to life. This means championing strong governance frameworks while inspiring others to deliver their best - encouraging a collaborative culture focused on improvement and high performance.
Undertaking the role of the Council’s Monitoring Officer under the provisions of Section 5 of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989, you’ll ensure that all of our decisions, decision-making processes and any other actions are both lawful and lawfully undertaken. As our Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO), we’ll look to you to lead on strategy development, policy planning and policy formulation, taking an innovative, future-focused approach.
You’ll be working with the Mayor, the Cabinet and senior leadership team with significant financial budgets and resources, so you’ll need to be a strong leader and role model who takes ownership and a collaborative approach to everything you do. A qualified solicitor or barrister, you’ll bring substantial experience of a Monitoring Officer role in a local authority together with knowledge and understanding of enabling an effective scrutiny function.
