Our client is a FTSE 250 organisation looking for a Legal Counsel - Commercial Lawyer to join their highly regarded and successful in-house legal team. Based in Northampton this is a wide and varied position offering exposure to high quality commercial legal work. This is a varied role involving drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts and agreements.

Whilst there will be a focus on commercial contracts you will get exposure to a variety of other legal matters. These could include, data protection, product issues and other queries that can arise in a busy legal department.

The company offer a good collaborative environment. They are strong on training and development and is a business where people come in progress their career and do well.

The ideal candidate:

  • A strong grounding in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts
  • Able to work in a busy in-house legal department and provide day to day commercial advice to all departments within the business which might include areas such as product issues, data protection, compliance and dispute management
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate legal issues in a business-friendly way and influence key stakeholders
  • Able to effectively manage competing priorities and stakeholder expectations

In-house experience would be desirable, but the client would consider a private practice lawyer looking to move in-house who could point to good business and commercial skills.
