Job Title: Assistant Counsel
Salary Band: A2
Salary: £49,995 pa
Contract Type: Fixed Term for 24 months with the possibility of extension or permanency
Number of Posts: 1
Hours: Full time, 36 hours per week
Closing date: midnight on 1st July 2018
The Role
This is primarily a commercial advisory post, working as part of the general advice team and in particular providing advice and guidance to departments of the House on commercial contracts and procurement, during a period when the Procurement team expect to be particularly heavily loaded. The team as a whole covers a very wide range of work including issues of Parliamentary privilege, freedom of information, data protection, employment, health and safety, personal injury litigation, copyright and broadcasting. The post-holder may be expected to assist with other areas of advice as needed.
The Person
The successful candidate will have the following skills/experience:
- Sound knowledge of contract law and experience of successfully conducting commercial negotiations. Knowledge and experience of operating and advising on the use of framework agreements and various standard forms of contract (e.g. construction, ICT, General Services and Supplies). The use of NEC3 is particularly desirable.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to provide clear and concise legal advice on complex issues in a comprehensible and appropriate format.
- Proven ability to build relationships with, and gain the confidence of, senior staff working in a complex environment, so that advice can be effectively given and understood.
