What is in it for you?

  • Opportunity to be at the forefront of advising on the rules that govern solicitors' conduct
  • Showcase your ability to liaise with external stakeholders providing excellent customer service
  • Enjoy a varied role, with challenge and ownership
  • Training on rules and principles of conduct

The role

The Professional Ethics Guidance team are seeking a highly motivated and positive individual to join a skilled and supportive team of existing Ethics Advisers.

As an Ethics Adviser, you will specialise in providing advice on the rules that govern solicitors' conduct and assist solicitors in applying these to their situation. You will give advice on the telephone, web chat and in writing, so you will need to communicate clearly, concisely and accurately.

With a natural ability to build rapport quickly, you will be the first port of call and will manage a substantial number of queries on a wide variety of subjects. You will also case work applications for waivers of the outcomes of the Code of Conduct and make first instance decisions on applications under Rule 20 of the SRA Accounts Rules.

The work is pressured but varied and will suit someone who likes a challenge. You will need to take ownership of each query, meeting the highest performance standards at all times.

We will provide training on the rules and principles of conduct but you will need to show an aptitude to apply them in relation to individual situations.

The helpline is open to the profession Monday to Friday 9.00 - 17.00 and you will need to cover these hours.

What we are looking for

  • Passionate and driven individuals
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience of private practice and advising on anti-money laundering
  • Resilience and the ability to work under pressure, delivering to deadlines
  • Competent decision maker, using appropriate judgment

All applicants are required to include a full CV and complete the appropriate sections within the application form evidencing how their knowledge skills and experience meet the essential criteria listed.

This role will be covering a period of family leave and will initially be offered as a six month contract. There may be potential for this contract to be extended.

We expect this role to be required for a fixed period of time. However, there may be a future opportunity for the role to made permanent, with all things being considered.
