Job Details

We are looking for a Planning and CPO Lawyer with a strong academic record, coupled with good quality planning experience. We welcome applications from candidates working in private practice and the public sector and those who are Scottish qualified.

You should be a strong team player and be able to manage a complex and varied workload effectively, as you will be working in all areas of the unit's practice, and for a number of different Partners.

Team

Ranked top tier by both Chambers and Legal 500, our Planning and CPO team “works on complex planning matters for both public and private sector clients across a range of projects, including notable regeneration schemes. Provides an impressive level of expertise in energy matters including wind farms, nuclear projects and pipeline matters. Also offers strengths in the planning aspects of mining matters and the links between environmental law and planning. Continues to advise on high-level compulsory purchase issues.” Chambers 2018.

We have particular strengths in infrastructure, regeneration and large mixed use developments, renewable and conventional energy, minerals and waste, compulsory purchase, planning advocacy and High Court challenges. Our team members are Legal Associates of the Royal Town and Country Planning Institute and the Law Society's Planning Panel of recommended experts. We also write and lecture extensively on a range of topics.

Work

Recent highlights include:

  • Acting on a number of nationally significant infrastructure projects for transport and energy schemes, including advising Isle of Anglesey Council on the proposed new nuclear power station and grid connection at Wylfa and the Environment Agency on Hinkley C.
  • Advising on planning appeals for a range of developments, including renewables, housing and agricultural schemes, and undertaking the advocacy at Inquiry.
  • Advising Bristol City, North Somerset and Pembrokeshire County Councils on CPOs for road schemes.
  • Advising the Canal & River Trust on their objection to a CPO being promoted for a 3,750 home mixed-used scheme in London.
  • Advising Redrow Homes on the new proposed “Garden City” North West Cardiff and mixed use development of 7,000 homes.

You will enjoy a varied workload and have the opportunity to do your own advocacy. The role could also include support to the firm's Local Government Team on local government law, if you are suitably experienced and have an interest in this type of work.
