The Scottish Police Authority is the national oversight and scrutiny body for policing in Scotland. With a workforce of more than 22,000 Police Officers and Staff and an annual budget of £1.1 Billion Police Scotland is the second largest Police Service in the UK and serves a population of over 5 Million people, in cities, towns and across the rural and island communities. The Authority is also the legal employer of all Police Staff, and has significant legal responsibilities for Police Officers, including their terms and conditions of service.
As Lead Solicitor you will advise Authority, including its Board, Committees, senior management, on a wide range of employment law, HR, industrial relations and equalities issues, taking into account legislation and policy requirements.
You will represent the Authority at employment tribunals and courts throughout the UK, including the Sheriff Courts and the Court of Session. You will have proven extensive experience of representing clients and providing advice within general litigation, public law and judicial review proceedings and employment tribunal proceedings.
You will work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders including external partners, Forensic Services and the Scottish Government. You will take the lead on the provision of legal advice to the Authority and be a member of a United Kingdom Law Society and be qualified to hold a practicing certificate.
