The Medical Protection Society Limited (“MPS”) is the world’s leading protection organisation for doctors, dentists and healthcare professionals. We protect and support the professional interests of more than 300,000 members around the world. Membership provides access to expert advice and support together with the right to request indemnity for any complaints or claims arising from professional practice.
Our in-house experts assist with the wide range of legal and ethical problems that arise from professional practice. This can include clinical negligence claims, complaints, medical and dental council inquiries, legal and ethical dilemmas, disciplinary procedures, inquests and fatal accident inquiries.
Following successful rounds of recruitment last year, and in line with the planned development and expansion of our in-house legal function, we are recruiting for additional Legal Advisers to join MPS at our offices in both Leeds and London on a permanent basis.
As a Legal Adviser, you will form part of a medical or dental multi-disciplinary team and will work closely with our Medicolegal or Dentolegal Advisers. You will act as a specialist resource, providing legal advice and support to our members primarily in relation to healthcare regulatory and inquest cases. From time to time you will also provide general legal advice, as well as supporting and mentoring junior colleagues within the department.
In order to be considered for the role you must be a practising solicitor, qualified member of CILEX or barrister, with relevant experience. In addition you will possess five years post-admission experience within medical or dental regulatory proceedings.
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills are a necessity, as well as an analytical approach to problem solving. You must be able to work autonomously and to tight deadlines.
In return, we offer a great working environment in conveniently located offices in Leeds city centre and the Shard. We offer an exceptional benefits package, including a 12% pension scheme, 30 days paid holiday (in addition to public holidays), private medical insurance and a health care cash plan, car allowance, childcare vouchers and an annual bonus scheme.
To apply or enquire, please send a CV along with salary expectation to careers@medicalprotection.org
In addition please can you state whether you would have a preference for either medical or dental case work, or if you would be open to either specialism.
The closing date for this role is 23rd July 2018
