We have an exciting opportunity for a Legal Assistant to join our progressive, rapidly expanding Litigation team to provide legal assistance across a varied and complex workload. This role offers excellent scope for professional development, gaining invaluable experience in a fast paced, changing environment at one of the world's top competition and consumer agencies.

The Litigation Unit is at the heart of the CMA Legal Service and acts for the CMA in all its civil litigation in the Competition Appeal Tribunal, High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. Our legal action ensures markets work well for consumers, businesses and the economy.

The successful candidate will support case teams working on merger, markets, regulatory, consumer and competition law enforcement cases; assist senior lawyers on contentious work; and provide legal advice on risk and legal framework to case teams. There will be a strong emphasis on delivering to the very highest standards and you will be able to develop your skills and knowledge quickly within an organisation that has the reputation and ability to support your career.

Candidates will have a strong academic record and be degree educated either in law or have completed the Common Professional Exam, Graduate Diploma in Law or similar legal qualification. Candidates must also have completed the Legal Practice Course, Bar Professional Training Course or have a post graduate qualification in law or evidence of an equivalent high level academic or professional achievement.  In addition to these academic qualifications, candidates must have practical experience of competition and/or regulatory casework or litigations.  A full entitlement to practice is essential. 

The CMA offers a generous annual leave allowance of 25 days per year that increases to 30 days after 5 years’ service. In addition, the CMA offers generous policies for maternity and paternity leave, parental leave and special leave in the event of domestic emergencies.
