Salary: £46,310 - £52,780 p.a inclusive of London Weighting + MFS

The City of London Corporation is the local authority for the Square Mile. We carry out the usual functions of a local authority, but we also have important wider responsibilities for areas you might not associate with the City – for example, the Barbican Centre, the City of London Police, open spaces such as Hampstead Heath, and markets such as Smithfield.

We provide legal services to all departments and benefit from a very wide range of good quality and interesting work. We are seeking applications from solicitors or barristers with up to 5 years PQE, or from unadmitted lawyers with substantial equivalent experience, for a position in the Contracts and Procurement section.

The section has eight lawyers, and you will report directly to the head of the section. You will be responsible for a varied caseload of procurement and contract matters covering the spectrum of the section’s work. The complexity of the work will depend on the experience of the successful candidate, but the main responsibilities will be Barbican Centre arts contracts, IT contracts for both for the City Corporation and the City Police, and police collaboration and data sharing agreements.

Some experience would be desirable in relation to advising on contract disputes as well as liaising with Counsel and external law firms where necessary.

You will be expected to attend City Procurement category boards, and we can provide you with the opportunity to gain experience of attending committees.
