Job Details

Since 1862, HM Land Registry has protected and guaranteed people’s land and property rights by keeping and maintaining the Land Register for England and Wales.

We are committed to becoming the world's leading land registry for speed, simplicity and an open approach to data.

As an Assistant Land Registrar you will be part of a national team of lawyers known as Land Registration Lawyers, providing legal and technical advice to our skilled staff of land registration professionals based in 14 offices throughout England and Wales.

Working with others, you will deliver the wider Legal and Assurance Directorate business objectives and manage a varied caseload of complex and sensitive cases, complaints and financial claims under the land registration legislation.

You must be qualified to practise as a Solicitor or Barrister in England and Wales or be a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives. There are no minimum post-qualification experience requirements but you will need to demonstrate that you have, or can quickly acquire, sound knowledge of land registration, land law and conveyancing.

We are looking for applicants with legal professional skills who can exercise sound judgement to reach effective decisions quickly and who will play a vital part in delivering the first-class legal services HM Land Registry needs as we transform into a digital organisation.

Our modern Weymouth office is close to the beaches, lakes, museums, aquarium, shopping centre and transport facilities of one of the UK’s most attractive seaside towns. Weymouth is also the gateway to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site and the Dorset countryside made famous by author Thomas Hardy.

This is a full or part-time opportunity to join an organisation that offers competitive terms, conditions and benefits. You will have flexible start and finish times and access to Civil Service pension arrangements. The maternity, paternity and childcare benefits are extremely competitive. HM Land Registry actively encourages career progression and as part of the Civil Service there will be many opportunities for self-development through Civil Service Learning.

Full details of the post are included in the attached job description.
