Are you looking to become the head of a legal team, consult the business at Director level, join a "Fortune 500" automotive company, handle an incredibly varied workload, work with industry-leading technical experts, and leave the confines of Private Practice? This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Solicitor to Head the legal team for one of the countries largest automotive companies, and gain Director level status.

The Company

This company is a subsidiary group of a Fortune 500 automotive company in North America and Europe; their annualised turnover exceeds five-billion dollars Worldwide. They employ in excess of 30,000 people across seven different Countries. The subsidiary group has 12,000 employees with over 300 branches in the UK and Europe, this subsidiary alone generates one-billion dollars annually. They are in a period of rapid expansion and have acquired several other companies over the last few years to gain a significant market share within their sector.

Part of what has made them so successful is their emphasis on tenacity, competitiveness, and not being afraid to roll your sleeves up and get involved. Since the 70's this organisation has grown from a single site service provider to the UK's leading specialist in this area. Their nearest competitor is about one fifth the size of this organisation.

Although the company specialises in the automotive sector, they are heavily involved in multiple projects, including but not limited, land acquisition, commercial development, corporate transactions, and investments. They have more ambitious growth plans in place for the next five years and will be recruiting across every level of the company.

The Role

The company is looking to recruit a Head of Legal Services for their West Midlands office. This is a diverse role and will require a broad range of experience including but not limited to; Projects, Commercial Property, Corporate Transactions, Commercial Contracts, and Commercial Litigation. It is essential that the applying candidate has at least some experience in 3 or more of the above.

The successful Solicitor coming in would have access to an abundance of resources and would have the support of multiple experts in this sector. The intention of the company would be to progress the Head of Legal to Director level in a short space of time, meaning that the prospects for progression would be there from the start, and the incoming Solicitor would get right to the top of the company quickly. They are looking for not only excellent Legal experience but also an individual who is an exceptionally strong business advisor.

This is an incredibly diverse role that balances both legal, business, and management responsibilities. It will be The Head of Legal responsibility to ensure the effective management of the team, delegate workflow, and advise on business strategy, while also being able to support on complicated matters relating to Litigation matters.
Litigation

  • Advising on Property and Commercial matters where there is a litigation risk
  • Acting in the event of disputes that may arise
  • An understanding of the compliance and regulatory concerns attached to the various projects involved

Management

  • Leading a team of Lawyers and Paralegals
  • Advising on business strategy

The Requirements

  • You must be a Solicitor with at least 7+ years PQE, with no upper limit.
  • You will have experience in Commercial Property, Corporate Commercial, and Litigation. Alternatively, you will have strong experience in one area with an understanding which can be developed in these other areas.
  • A strong track record of advising on business strategy would be a key component.
  • Excellent communication skills will be essential to relay back to the board of directors and stakeholders.
  • You would ideally come from a similar In-House position. However, those coming from law firms will be considered.
  • Management skills which have been established in previous roles.
  • The starting salary is £100,000, more than this would depend on the level of experience.
