Lewes District Council and Eastbourne Borough Councils
Lewes and Eastbourne Legal Services

Lawyer – Property
Grade: PO7 - 10, £37,430 - £40,430
Hours per week: 37
Permanent Contract
Base: Lewes and Eastbourne

Our Legal Practice spans Lewes and Eastbourne Councils, providing expert advice to our shared body of officers and both sets of members.

We are looking for a qualified lawyer (Solicitor, Barrister, Legal Practitioner or Legal Executive) with the ability to draft, negotiate and advise on property matters and transactions relating to the councils’ property portfolios. You will have the necessary skills and experience in giving written and oral advice to officers, as well as excellent knowledge and understanding of current property law.

Because we work across two councils our area is unique in its mix of environments, including the larger urban area of Eastbourne, the historic county town of Lewes, small towns and villages in and around the National Park and a large area of coastal strip, making the work varied and interesting.

The property law team’s current work has included expanding the councils’ portfolios of large scale property e.g. a retail park; regeneration of existing land and buildings; devolution of land to neighbouring towns and parishes as well as management of existing leased properties and issues arising.

We will consider your application whether you are an experienced property lawyer or newly qualified and keen to gain experience. The work activity and level of supervision and training you receive will depend on your previous experience.

The successful applicant will work alongside a small team of friendly property lawyers as part of the Legal Services department supported by a dedicated practice manager and case management system. She/he will be required to work out of both Lewes and Eastbourne offices as the caseload dictates.

If you would like to find out more about the role, or any other aspect of the advert, please contact Mark Reynard at mark.reynard@lewes-eastbourne.gov.uk
