Salary: £51,855 - £56,787 per annum

Hours: 37 per week

Harrogate is an ambitious Council with a clear vision, a wide range of corporate priorities and important projects to deliver. A unique opportunity has arisen for a lawyer and manager who can demonstrate the potential to take on a senior, influential role whilst benefitting from a period of support and development from the existing Chief Solicitor, as they hand over the reins in the run up to retirement.

As a qualified and experienced solicitor or barrister, you will need to be confident working with all levels of local government officers, councillors, external solicitors and barristers and a range of external stakeholders across Yorkshire, providing advice and support.

Economic and Place Development in the private and public sectors across the Harrogate District is a key area of work for the Legal Services team and we are therefore looking for a candidate with experience in planning and development law (ideally with a background in local government) to provide strong technical advice, bringing creativity and solution-focused thinking to support the Council in delivering its key strategic projects.

The Chief Solicitor is also responsible for the management of the Legal Services and Procurement team, with three direct reports.
