Lead Legal Adviser
• Based in London
• Fulltime, Permanent
• £74,664 to £102,663 & benefits package
The Medical Protection Society Limited (“MPS”) is the world’s leading protection organisation for doctors, dentists and healthcare professionals. We protect and support the professional interests of more than 300,000 members around the world. Membership provides access to expert advice and support together with the right to request indemnity for any complaints or claims arising from professional practice.
Our in-house experts assist with the wide range of legal and ethical problems that arise from professional practice. This can include clinical negligence claims, complaints, medical and dental council inquiries, legal and ethical dilemmas, disciplinary procedures, inquests and fatal accident inquiries.
As a result of growing our in-house legal function, we are recruiting for a Lead Legal Adviser to join MPS at our offices in London on a permanent basis.
As a Lead Legal Adviser you will responsible for a team of Legal Advisers and Legal Assistants providing an in-house legal service to MPS and our members, primarily in Regulatory and Inquest matters. You and your team will form part of a multi-disciplinary team consisting of doctors/dentists and other professional support.
You will act as the escalation point for any technical issues and will handle more complex cases with assistance from the team. From time to time you will also participate in various projects and consistently strive to improve processes. This position will also see you work closely with our Quality Assurance and Compliance functions.
In order to be considered for the position you must be a practising solicitor, qualified member of CILEX or barrister, with relevant experience. In addition you will possess ten years postadmission experience within medical or dental regulatory proceedings and have significant experience in managing a complex caseload of healthcare regulatory and inquest cases.
Previous management experience is also essential with relevant and recent experience of leading a high performing team and preferably leading through change, coupled with excellent analytical, communication and interpersonal skills. You must be IT literate, with practical experience of using IT as an analytical and case management tool, and be able to work
autonomously and to tight deadlines.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead and embed a new team of legal professionals whilst working as part of a multi-disciplinary team of doctors and dentists.
In return, we offer a great working environment in conveniently located offices in the Shard. We offer an exceptional benefits package, including a 12% pension scheme, 30 days paid holiday (in addition to public holidays), private medical insurance and a health care cash plan, car allowance, childcare vouchers and an annual bonus scheme.
