Data Protection Officer

LAW Absolute are working with a range of leading global companies including FTSE 100, FTSE 250 to SME’s across various industries to include: music, broadcast and entertainment, gaming and betting, sport and publishing through to innovative early stage tech companies and retailers. Our clients are seeking experienced Data Protection/Privacy Lawyers with GDPR experience to join as their Data Protection Officer (DPO).

There are various DPO roles on offer – to include full-time permanent roles, as well as interim roles working on a free-lance basis.

The DPO roles are all London based, and all offer flexible working (part-time and working remotely), the work will involve:

• Providing prompt expert advice on existing and new purposes for processing personal data
• Leading on data protection awareness and training
• Building and managing relationships with data protection authorities
• Dealing professionally with requests for information and complaints
• Ensuring data subjects, both customers and employees, are informed of their rights
• Establish, maintain and monitor a data protection and privacy framework, including policies, procedures and other documentation
• Implement and maintain privacy by design across the business

Requirements:

• Previous experience working as DPO is not essential, what is key is a deep understanding of, and appropriate demonstrable experience, in all aspects of UK and European data protection laws and an in-depth knowledge of the GDPR;
• Candidates must ideally be England and Wales qualified lawyers (or equivalent), however candidates with a non-legal background, but with extensive DPO experience suitable qualification(s) from the International Association of Privacy Professionals are also welcome to apply;
• Expert knowledge in data protection and privacy, including GDPR and a minimum of 2-3 years solid experience in this area, gained either in private practice with a top city firm or in-house working with a similar industry;

• An ability to quickly develop a full understanding of the information systems and its data security and data protection needs;
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written and the ability to communicate at the senior/board level.
