Deputy Director: Governance and Monitoring Officer

to £72k

Worcester is one of the UK’s most attractive places to live, work and visit. A flourishing city, with excellent transport networks, it offers the perfect blend of heritage townscapes and beautiful countryside. Moreover, we’ve a thriving economy, with traditional industries alongside technological innovators and a vibrant University.

This is an excellent opportunity to take on a high profile and influential role in our organisation, where your professional advice and expertise will make a considerable contribution to key strategic decisions and initiatives. You’ll lead our Legal Services and Democratic Services teams, ensuring that elected members benefit from comprehensive and appropriate legal advice and that decision making processes are underpinned and facilitated by sound and practical governance frameworks. The ability to work effectively across the full political spectrum is vital. It’s important that you can quickly build rapport, trust and professional credibility with our elected members. The Council has recently adopted a committee model of governance, and as we review its effectiveness, you’ll have the opportunity to implement recommendations for change and improvement. And, reporting directly to the Managing Director as part of the Council’s senior leadership team, you’ll also have a corporate leadership role to fulfil.

This is a career move that presents the opportunity to develop your senior leadership credentials in an organisation that is ambitious for its community and committed to the professional development of its staff.
