We have an exciting opportunity for a Solicitor or Associate to join the Commercial and Infrastructure Department within our growing and successful Leeds office to focus on advising our local government, health and housing clients.

The team

You will be joining a highly respected friendly team who are at the forefront of local authority and health innovation (and who work in a collegiate way) that has advised on some award winning projects. The team is experienced in all local authority, health and blue light work and supports colleagues across the firm on projects and commercial transactions. The team has an exceptional reputation being ranked number 1 in Chambers and Partners and Legal 500 directories.

The team is involved in interesting and innovative work which is wide-ranging and includes governance, integration across health and local government, procurement, inquiries and investigations, commercial and complex outsourcing contracting work including Projects/PFI/PPP, joint ventures and housing finance. The team work within a range of disciplines often working alongside colleagues with in-depth specialisms, for example , in employment, litigation, education, IT, Transport and Waste.

The team's client base is diverse and includes local authorities, combined authorities, NHS and Independent Sector health and social care providers, police and fire; and Registered Social Landlords.

The role

You will advise on challenging and market leading commercial issues and transactions, as well as being involved in developing solutions to governance issues from powers to decision-making and constitutions.

You will have a good amount of client contact, the opportunity to be involved in business development activities, responsibility appropriate to your knowledge and expertise and you will assist the team in the delivery of complex projects and transactions to both public and private sector clients. You will also assist with the commercial financing of projects.

Additionally you will advise and draft documentation on shared services, new models of care, alternative delivery vehicles (including companies and limited liability partnerships), devolution and cross sector collaboration between public bodies.

About you

For this role we are looking for you to demonstrate 0 – 5 years post qualified experience; however we may be interested in more experienced applicants depending on the nature of your experience. Experience of advising local authorities and the NHS or an understanding of how they work would be desirable but is not essential.

You will have excellent organisational skills and ability to manage time effectively. Strong technical skills and an ability to understand and work through complex issues is essential to the role and the ability to operate with a high level of self-sufficiency is also important.

Experience of or ability to work in a team coordinating advice with other fee earners as well as liaising effectively with clients to build relationships is important.
