About us

The Electoral Commission is the independent body that regulates party and election finance, sets standards for well-run elections and encourages people to register to vote.

We are looking for an experienced public lawyer to join our dedicated legal team, working to support the delivery of the Commission’s objectives. You will be involved in a wide range of high quality legal work focusing primarily on supporting the regulatory and enforcement side of the Commission’s work.

The Role

This role requires strong legal analytical skills, a sound legal knowledge-base and the ability to confidently and effectively interpret and apply new and complex legislation. You will have a strong understanding and experience of advising on public law. A background advising on regulatory law and public law litigation would be highly advantageous. Experience of government (central or local) or related organisations with governmental type duties would also be desirable.

This is an exciting time to work at the Commission and the role provides an excellent opportunity to work in a stimulating and fast paced legal environment where you will be involved in novel and often high profile issues affecting the democratic process in the UK.

The Electoral Commission offers excellent terms and conditions, including flexible working hours and the opportunity to join the Civil Service pension arrangements (dependent on scheme rules) which include a valuable range of benefits.

As this is a fixed term post we would be happy to consider a secondment for candidates with suitable experience.

Immediately available candidates desired.

If you are interested in this role please visit our website; http://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/jobs to download the job description and person specification, before applying online.

The closing date for applications is 09 September 2018 at 11:45pm.

Interviews to be held week commencing 17 September 2018.

We are committed to equality of opportunity and welcome applications from all sections of the community.
