CRIMINAL LAW SOLICITOR

Ison Harrison Solicitors, incorporating Harrison Bundey, offers a full range of legal services to both personal and commercial clients from its 12 offices in Leeds and the surrounding area.

We are looking for an experienced criminal defence solicitor to join our dedicated team, providing high quality legal advice, assistance and advocacy to clients of the firm and maintaining our high standards of client care.  The successful candidate will be based at our Leeds City Centre office and will contribute to the successful performance, development and growth of both the team and the firm as a whole. 

The role involves managing a busy caseload of Crime matters including all aspects of criminal litigation but with an emphasis on Magistrates Court advocacy.  The successful candidate will deal with matters at all stages in accordance with department, firm, LAA and Lexcel policies and procedures. 

KEY DUTIES:

  • Taking instructions from clients and advising accordingly.
  • Instructing counsel or other experts
  • Representing clients at Court (including advocacy) as appropriate.
  • Obtaining and preparing file documentation.
  • Cost drafting as appropriate.
  • Billing files and obtaining monies due to the firm from the clients, the Legal Aid Agency and other parties.
  • Delegated supervisory responsibilities as and when required

KEY SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALITIES 

  • Minimum 2 years PQE (but open to applications at all levels)
  • Ability to present and argue a case orally and in writing
  • Ability to deal with technical details and to express solutions to complex legal problems in a concise and customer-friendly way
  • Ability to work accurately in accordance with the requirements of each team
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritise workload and meet deadlines
  • Flexible, ‘can-do’ attitude
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Ability to work as a member of a team
  • Ability to deal with enquiries in a client friendly and effective manner
  • Excellent written English to produce documents for the clients, court and other parties
  • Ability to be a natural ambassador for the firm.
