Hackney Council is looking for a Senior Housing lawyer. You will need to demonstrate significant knowledge and experience of housing and homelessness law and practice.

If you are ambitious, creative and have the drive to help deliver excellent modern legal services then this role is for you.

Hackney is London's most diverse, dynamic neighbourhood. Reaching from the Square Mile to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, this is an area of rapid economic growth, particularly in technology, media, fashion and other creative industries. Hackney has more green spaces than any other inner London borough; some of the capital's finest schools; first class transport connections; excellent public services; and thriving arts, cultural and retail sectors.

Based within our legal and governance department, you will support and manage a team of Housing Lawyers and Paralegals who provide legal advice and assistance to the Council. The team’s litigation caseload consists of possession claims against tenants and unauthorised occupiers; disrepair; injunctions; s204 appeals; and judicial reviews in respect of homelessness and allocations.

You will also be the strategic lead for Housing and will be working side by side with the client to proactively deliver the Mayor’s ambitious manifesto.

We are looking for a person that can demonstrate the commitment to ensure our economic growth provides benefits for everyone and creates opportunities to transform the lives of residents.

You will provide clear, consistent and accurate legal advice to clients. We need someone with effective management and communications skills - able to engage and build working relationships with senior staff across the Council. You should work with tact and discretion, handling confidential information with sensitivity.

You will be expected to manage a demanding caseload of more complex cases and conduct advocacy in the courts where required. You will be called on to advice about policies and procedures including providing governance advice.

You must be a qualified lawyer with proven experience in this area of work. You should thrive under pressure, take initiative and think on your feet.t Hackney, we go that extra mile for our people; we offer a work environment which is stimulating, fast moving and supportive, giving you the chance to use your skills and develop new ones within a high profile organisation.
