2 years FTC commencing October 2018
£40k pa, taxable in St Helena

In this vital role you will support the Public Solicitors Office with advisory and litigation support in relation to Public Law and children and offer general advice in relation to a wide range of civil legal queries.
A sub-tropical island of spectacular and beautiful landscapes in the South Atlantic with a warm and friendly population of 4,500, St Helena is a self-governing overseas territory of the UK. It’s now poised for transformation with the recent opening of a brand new international airport offering scheduled commercial air access.
You will represent parents in applications from the Department of Social Services and the Safeguarding directorate in particular.
Attending Child Protection Conferences you will represent parents on applications made by the Safeguarding Department in the Magistrates and Supreme Court, with representation throughout proceedings and preparation of all documents to final hearings. Advisory work on general civil matters will include Employment and Clinical Negligence. This role does not have any criminal advisory or litigation.
An established UK Solicitor of at least 5 years PQE, with substantial experience of representation and advocacy in Public Law proceedings and safeguarding work, you will have represented parents in the County Court and High Court. With good communication skills and a flexible approach, your working knowledge of computer systems will be supported by strong analytical skills.
