Job Details

Two exciting opportunities have arisen to join our Legal Services Section, based on the South Coast in Worthing Town Centre, West Sussex, providing a joint legal service to Adur District Council and Worthing Borough Council. 

Senior Lawyer & Deputy Monitoring Officer (Governance and Regulatory)

Full Time Permanent Post: 37 hours per week (Part time considered)

Grade 10: Salary from £47,135 to £51,816               

We are looking for a qualified Solicitor or Barrister with at least 3 years’ post-qualification experience, to act as Senior Lawyer and Deputy Monitoring Officer for both Councils.  You must have substantial knowledge and experience of local government law and practice and in particular Housing, Planning & Licensing experience would be useful.  You should ideally have relevant leadership experience, or have the proven ability to develop leadership skills.

You will be required to regularly advise Members and Senior Officers, and attend Council meetings which will involve some evening work.

 

 

The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills; strong negotiating skills; the ability to apply the law to complex issues and provide clear, accurate legal advice; and be an excellent team player.

The Council operates flexible working practices.
