About the Role

Property lawyer role within a large Local Authority dealing with a whole range of commercial property transactions, including acquisitions, disposals, leases acting for both landlord and tenant , easements, licences, Landlord and Tenant Act notices, adverse possession and boundary disputes. The role will have a particular emphasis on disposals.

This is a fixed term contract for 2 years.

Key Accountabilities

1.Manage a complex commercial property caseload, involving all aspects of commercial property work, with a particular emphasis on disposals.
2.Provide technical legal advice on commercial property matters to a range of internal stakeholders.
3.Draft and negotiate complex legal documents relating to a wide range of commercial property transactions, together with the ability to advise both in writing and orally on law and practice relating to the structure of such transactions and commercial property law.
4.Apply commercial property law and knowledge to achieve the County Council's aims and objectives whilst having regard to County Council policies, practices and systems.
5.Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team on larger projects
6. More junior applicants will have the opportunity to gain experience though assist more senior members of the property legal team but all applicants must be able to work independently in connection with standard instructions.
7. Attend meetings where necessary
8. Instruct Counsel where necessary
9. Such other duties and responsibilities of a similar grade and nature as may be required.


  Skills and Experience

Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive
At least 2 years post qualification experience in commercial property, together with up to date and authoritative knowledge of commercial property law and transactions
Experience of conducting own substantial and varied commercial property caseload (working independently is essential, working as part of a multi-disciplinary team is desirable).
Ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
Ability to work as part of a team
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in particular on law and practice relating to commercial property law and the structure of transactions.
Ability to draft and negotiate complex legal documents relating to a wide range of commercial property transactions
Knowledge of Commercial Property Law.
