General Counsel
London
Up to £130,000
Closing Date: Monday 29th October
Ref: GSe47367
The London Fire Brigade’s vision is to be a world class fire and rescue service. We are the busiest fire and rescue service in the country and one of the largest firefighting and rescue organisations in the world. Our workforce comprises 4,500 operational and 1,000 non-operational staff
A unique and trusted organisation, our work has changed over the years with stronger emphasis on fire prevention and community safety as well as responding to fires, terrorist incidents and other emergencies. As part of the Greater London Authority family, keeping London safe and managing our resources is high profile and politically sensitive.
Following recent governance changes and a review of our legal and governance arrangements, we are now seeking a General Counsel to be responsible for f legal and governance matters across the service. As an adviser to the Commissioner’s Board, you will play a key role in developing and implementing the Corporate Governance Plan, and will lead on all legal advice, casework and governance issues. You will work closely across the LFB leadership, ensuring a collaborative approach and the integration of legal services whether sourced internally, contracted or provided under collaborative arrangements with partners with whom you will build effective relationships.
You will be an experienced Solicitor or Barrister, with experience in a legal and governance leadership role in a large and complex environment. You will have an understanding of the requirements of working in a democratically accountable environment and bring a track record of successfully managing relationships across a range of stakeholders. You will be experienced in leading and developing teams through periods of change and transformation.
