In order to meet the demand for our services from Cornwall Housing the Dispute Resolution team are recruiting a full time Housing Lawyer (Legal Officer).

Cornwall Legal is a team of lawyers providing expert, high quality legal advice exclusively to public sector clients. We advise in-house clients, as a service of Cornwall Council. We also act for a number of external clients across the South West, including the Councils wholly owned companies, a fire and rescue authority, in excess of 150 schools and academies and other local authorities.

Our key sectors of expertise are Property, Highways, Housing, Planning, Employment, Commercial, Social Care, Education, Litigation and Local Government. We have specialist lawyers with both public and private sector experience providing thorough, practical and commercially focused advice.

Operating in the public sector means our lawyers have first-hand experience of the challenges clients face, particularly concerning the economic climate and the pace of change across the wider public sector. We are therefore in a unique position to offer clients an unrivalled depth of understanding that meets your needs, beyond just the provision of legal advice.

Cornwall Legal is the largest in house provider of legal services to the public sector in Cornwall and Devon.

Applicants for the Legal Officer post need to be a solicitor, FILEX or barrister and be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of civil litigation and procedure, with experience of housing law. You will have good advocacy skills and be willing to undertake your own hearings wherever appropriate. The ability to manage a varied caseload is essential.

This role will require proven experience of excellent analytical and drafting skills, strong research skills and the ability to provide clear advice to clients.

You will be confident, flexible and practical with good client care skills seeking to be an active part of an accomplished team delivering great client care.
