Senior Solicitor (Planning Team)

Westminster City Council

Kensington Town Hall, with agile working options

£45,387 - £54,150

From Soho’s thriving nightlife to incredible shopping experiences that incorporate the creative charms of Covent Garden and the iconic allure of Regent Street, Westminster draws visitors in their millions. Set against the backdrop of stunning architecture and historically-rich attractions including the Houses of Parliament and Buckingham Palace, Westminster is the natural heart of London.

And while Westminster is central to London’s tourist economy, so too is it home to a diverse and multicultural population who are proud of their incredible neighborhoods – and the future promise that these neighborhoods hold. Our Planning Team are the cornerstone of this work, overseeing all commercial, cultural and residential planning and enforcement challenges, creating some of the UK’s most stimulating property development and regeneration projects and conserving and protecting the special characteristics of this unique borough – and it is here that you could join our exciting mission.

As the UK’s largest Planning Authority – and recognized by Planning Resource Magazine as one of the top-performing local authority legal planning teams in the UK – this is a unique opportunity to facilitate development and ensure compliance in one of the world’s most exciting cities. With plenty of variety in every day, you will use your knowledge of planning and associated highways laws to provide comprehensive advice on complex issues and at planning committees. Flagging up risks and supporting enforcement, you will be central to helping the team make informed decisions.

To join this friendly department, you will be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or CILEX Fellow or Associate with comprehensive experience of local authority legislation and local government law. Confident in court and inquiry situations, you will have solid negotiating capabilities. As you will be working in a politically sensitive environment, you will have great stakeholder management and communication skills, and your ability to explain complex legal issues will make you an invaluable part of the team.

If you’re as productive as you are ambitious and collaborative as you are enterprising, this is your chance to take real ownership of your work, right in the heart of iconic Westminster, a true ‘City for All’. This is a unique place where it all happens and an important role offering you the opportunity to transform lives.

As a progressive and innovative organization, we welcome applications from candidates keen to work in an agile environment with flexible conditions.
