Background to Pay Justice

Pay Justice was created in 2012 by a group of Directors who combined a deep expertise in Equal Pay Claims, growing businesses and data-based marketing.

Uniquely combining knowledge of where equal pay claims exist within the private sector and new capabilities in social media marketing, PJ has worked in partnership with several lawyers to create high profile mass claims, mainly in the retail sector.

By creating scale, for the first time, PJ has enabled thousands of low paid women to access justice on a commercially viable model for law firms utilising contingency fee agreements for the group claims.

Pay Justice now want to use it competence to widen its current model of enabling equal pay claims beyond large scale group actions to enable more women to make equal pay claims.

The Opportunity

To date our operational model has been to work in partnership with some of the country’s leading employment law firms. We are now wanting to develop our own claim handling services in order to provide an accessible equal pay service to individuals and small groups, pre formal litigation. If necessary, at this stage our formal partnership approach with law firms will continue to help enable the claims.

The role will include two main strands-

  • Working with a Director to further develop all aspects of a new business model
  • Running the operation of the new business model.

Pay Justice is looking to use its existing technology, marketing capabilities and brand to be able to offer the following claims services to people (predominately women) making equal pay claims–

  • Marketing and communications
  • Qualification (validity and commerciality of claim)
  • Contracting with claimants
  • Multiplying
  • Issuing grievance to employers
  • Liaise/negotiate/settle with employer
  • Contact with ACAS
  • Issue ET proceedings
  • Engage with solicitors (if and when needed).

The intention is to lever Pay Justices’ brand and associated marketing and technical competencies, which have been developed for group claims, now for individuals and small group claims.

The Person

We seek someone who –

  • Is committed to using legislation to close the gender pay gap and help women achieve equal pay
  • Has a good operational understanding of both equal pay legislation and formal claims process, likely evidenced from direct experience of involvement equal pay or other employment claims
  • Has a broad operational understanding of employment law and can appropriately identify when to seek additional expert opinion
  • Has very good customer service skill and can manage claims operations
  • Have business acumen and the desire to build and not just run an operational model
  • Has a interest in using technology to enable more equal pay work
  • Can operate with considerable freedom to act, is a “self starter” and can operate in less supervised but more flexible environment than a traditional law firm

The position is likely to be suitable for an experienced employment law para legal or a qualified employment solicitor. Values, capability, knowledge and ambition are seen as relevant as any particular formal qualifications and experience.

Remuneration

The pay and benefit package will be set very competitively to reflect the market rate of the experience level of the successful candidate. As well as a very competitive base salary and benefits there will considerable scope for earning bonuses and opportunities for considerable career progression for the person who grows this new business model.

Formal hours are 35 a week, worked flexibly to suit the post holder. Part time and job share applications are welcomed.  Pay Justice is committed to practising what we preach in terms of very high standards of employment practices and associated benefits

The position is based in Manchester City Centre in high quality modern and accessible offices. Alternative locations and remote working may be considered for the right candidate.
