What you’ll do

The Head of Law School Training is responsible for identifying best practice in training and its implementation in the Law School.  They will strategically plan and implement the training of all faculty staff in all areas relevant to the new future programmes and modules.  They are also responsible for overseeing the implementation of learning and teaching policies for Law School faculty staff.  They will drive the development and enhancement of related initiatives across the Law School.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with the Director of Programme Development and the Head of Development (Learning and Teaching) to strategically plan and implement all training relevant for the new programme suite and on an ongoing basis implement learning and teaching policies and procedures
  • Work with the Director of Programme Development to align learning and teaching strategy with the overall law school strategy for the growth and development of Law School programmes
  • Work with the Director of Development (Work Based Learning) to contribute to the training for Law School staff in supporting learners in a work-based learning environment
  • Working with the BPP Learning and Development team to oversee the implementation of national policies and implement any training needs within the Law School
  • Work with the Law School Training Managers to oversee the design and delivery of training sessions and materials for Law School academic staff (including tutor induction) on a wide range of educational and academic matters
  • Fulfil the role of a Law School Tutor as required from time to time

Role requirements

  • Qualified solicitor or barrister (with practice experience)
  • A relevant degree or either higher degree or equivalent professional qualification as appropriate/ experience in areas covered by the Law School
  • Experience in a training role
  • Practitioner experience
  • Continuing awareness of developments across the training and the learning and teaching sphere
  • Ability to innovate and to engage others in new approaches and initiatives
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal – at all levels
  • Understanding of the internal and external quality assurance frameworks governing academic standards and the quality of provision
  • Able to effectively plan, organise and prioritise workload
  • Able to work well in a team and be collaborative
  • Able to develop rapport, build and maintain strong working relationships
  • Able to manage a team of people
  • Able to have ‘difficult’ conversations
  • Ability to work with a range of individuals often with diverse needs and expectations
  • Strong networking skills
  • Strong IT skills
