A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Democratic Services Team Manager to join a Local Authority in the Northern Home Counties for an initial period of 6 months.

You will be expected to manage and supervise the Democratic Services team including Democratic Services Officers and Scrutiny Officers. You will ideally have expertise and knowledge of statutory and non-statutory matters affecting Democratic Services particularly including electoral registration.

Additional duties will include:

  • Ensuring all statutory and non-statutory activities associated with holding, conducting and recording decisions of Council meetings within prescribed deadlines
  • Appropriately scheduling, advertising and recording meetings of the Council and its Committees
  • Compiling and issuing agendas, minutes and decision sheets of meetings in accordance with corporate and statutory requirements
  • Guaranteeing that the conduct of business is effective and that decisions are recorded and published as required by legislation and the Council's Constitution
  • Making sure that efficient processes are in place linking the decision making processes between the Executive and scrutiny committees
  • Providing support and advice to Members on the Council's decision making processes and related matters such as the provisions of the Code of Conduct and Members Allowances
  • Maintaining, contributing to and keeping up to date the Council's Constitution
  • Liaising with the Scrutiny Officers to identify, implement and deliver Member development and training programmes
  • Representing the Authority on the regional and national user group meetings and forums


The hourly rate is between £30-40 per hour dependent on experience. The role is ideally offered on a full-time basis with the possibility of flexible homeworking available.
