Director of Governance & Legal
The Riverside Group
Competitive package

The Riverside Group is a social housing, care and regeneration business, which owns and manages just under 55,000 properties and has a turnover of £346m. Riverside has a clear remit to be a commercially sustainable and efficient organisation with social purpose at its core. They are already leading the way in the sector, having raised a £250m stock market bond in 2014, and are one of only two housing associations to have a Moody’s credit rating of A1. They are also proud to have built 2,500 homes between 2015-18 for rent, shared ownership and outright sale.

Riverside is now looking for a strategic Director of Governance & Legal to join the company, and work alongside the Board, and wider executive team, to protect and enhance the Group’s social and commercial endeavours. This position will report directly to the Chief Executive.

Role

  • Oversee the Group’s legal position and provide high quality legal input around a diverse range of commercial activities.
  • Ensure all commercial endeavours and partnerships are negotiated and completed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Act as a trusted and impartial advisor to the Board and Executive, remaining as the custodian of the company’s integrity through incisive and proper corporate governance and strategic risk management.

The Candidate

  • Extensive legal background, knowledge and experience, advising at Board level, working with advisers and through supplier relationships.
  • Commercially experienced leader, with a background in complex organisations of scale.
  • Demonstrable experience of working with compliance frameworks and regulatory requirements with a detailed knowledge of corporate law; a commitment to and experience of delivering governance best practice, acting as a strategic advisor to the Board.
