Your role

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and experienced individual to assist the Council in realising its ambitions. 

You will handle an interesting and varied workload and provide advice on a number of high profile projects as the principal Contracts Lawyer for the Council.  The role includes providing advice on public sector procurement, bespoke and standard form contracts, and major projects.  It will also include providing advice, drafting documentation, advising on the interpretation of contract terms and dealing with contract disputes.

You will work closely with the management team to develop the department and staff, managing legal colleagues including trainee solicitors.  

About you

You are a qualified Solicitor/Barrister or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives.  You will bring plenty of in depth knowledge of the whole spectrum of contract and procurement law and practice.  Ideally, you will have experience of local government law and procedures. Your relevant experience in these areas will enable you to advise and communicate with in-house clients, external partners and colleagues. You will have an eye for detail and good organisational skills, which will enable you to carry a substantial workload.

Flexible and innovative in your approach, you will help us to positively develop new areas of practice.

You will be able to work on your own initiative with a minimum of supervision and mentor less experienced colleagues.

Demonstrating your exceptional communication skills and pragmatism, you will give practical, clear and accurate legal advice to a range of Council officers, including; Councillors, the Chief Executive, Directors and Heads of Service.
