Job Details

Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service, Manchester

Turn your legal expertise to some of the most important questions in UK medicine.

The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) is the tribunal service for doctors in the UK. Our tribunals make independent decisions about whether doctors are fit to practise medicine. We are a statutory committee of the General Medical Council (GMC) operating separately from the investigatory role of the GMC and we are accountable to the Council of the GMC and the UK Parliament.

As a legally qualified individual, you will join us in fulfilling two important roles; predominantly as a Legally Qualified Chair (LQC), whilst also being required to undertake the work of a Legal Assessor where this is required.

You will demonstrate integrity, leadership and strong analytical skills, while reaching - or guiding tribunals to make - impartial and unbiased decisions affecting the lives of doctors. You will be required to advise tribunal members on points of law and guidance, and when carrying out the role of LQC would be responsible for the chairing of proceedings.

The time commitment is a minimum of 35 days each calendar year and a daily fee of £500 is payable, plus reasonable expenses.

We particularly welcome applications from people from a range of backgrounds, including BME, women, people under the age of 45 and people with disabilities.

To discover more and apply, visit our appointments page on our website.

Closing date for receipt of applications: Midnight on Friday 25 January 2019.
