Public Law Lawyer

One of the largest providers of legal services across government are currently recruiting for 10 qualified lawyers with (ideally substantial) litigation experience, working within the Public Law Teams (Immigration; General Public Law and Planning; Justice and Security; and Public/Private Law).

The roles are full-time covering 37 hours per week and will be for an initial 11 months.

Description:
The successful candidate will be expected to conduct their own demanding (and often complex) caseload of public law cases, which will often also involve a need to comply with tight Court and client deadlines and attending Court hearings with Counsel (including in the regional Courts).

Developed experience of litigation case handling and an ability to work independently and under pressure are essential. The post is likely to involve drafting pleadings, legal (and for some roles, policy) advice, witness statements and often detailed Instructions to Counsel, and good written skills (including close attention to detail) are also an important requirement of the role.

Substantive advocacy is not generally required though there may be some opportunity within the immigration teams to use advocacy skills which are available for suitably qualified and experienced people.
