ABOUT US
The Woodland Trust is the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity. We want to see a UK rich in native woods and trees, for people and wildlife. The Trust aims to engage and inspire people about woods and trees to help us meet our vision of creating, restoring and protecting woodland. But we can't achieve our vision without you.

THE ROLE
Woodland Trust Legal Services is an in-house legal office of solicitors and legal executives. We provide advice on a broad range of legal matters to a wide range of organisation stakeholders including our trustees, directors and officers of the Trust.

Our work is diverse, interesting and rewarding offering experience in a broad range of legal areas and involvement in significant conservation projects. The Commercial Lawyer will have a varied and interesting caseload, advising on matters relating to contractual, regulatory and commercial areas, including contractual documentation for our funded projects and corporate sponsorship contracts. The work will be varied and may also include collaboration agreements, procurement contracts, GDPR advice, research contracts, IT contracts, and grants. The focus of the role will be on contractual matters which may include commercial participator agreements with corporate sponsors of the Trust.

The Commercial Lawyer will advise on matters of charity, commercial, contract, IP and data protection law. The role offers the opportunity to build on existing experience whilst also developing expertise in commercial and regulatory legal issues in a charity context.

THE CANDIDATE
You will be an experienced solicitor or legal executive with experience gained in house or in private practice. You will understand the aims of the Woodland Trust and want to support us in achieving them through your role. With exceptional communication skills, you will be able to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and thrive when working as part of a team or autonomously.

The Legal Services team deals with cases of considerable financial and reputational impact, and you will need to have experience of successfully dealing with matters which carry such significance and the flexibility and the ability to take on a variety of work with varying degrees of complexity.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
There’s no other organisation like the Woodland Trust. Whatever you do here you will be supporting our work to protect and enhance woods and trees. In return, we recognise and value our people. You'll have our full support, training and opportunities for professional development, along with contributory pension, life assurance and good holiday entitlement.

We operate Agile working where we empower our people with the flexibility to use the most appropriate working space available. There will be the opportunity for some working from home.
