LEGAL OFFICER (EMPLOYMENT LITIGATION)

Based in the NEU Hamilton House Office (London)

 

Full-time, 12 months mat-leave cover (fixed term contract)

 

Commencing salary £55,368 plus £1,005 per annum (pro-rata for part-time)

We are currently hiring a Legal Officer (Employment Litigation) on a maternity leave backfill which we expect to last 12 months. The successful candidate will provide support on casework litigation to solicitors based in NEU Offices and to contribute to, support and enhance the NEU’s employment law service through the provision of advice, casework, litigation, advocacy and training.

The Legal Officer will conduct advocacy, as appropriate, including at employment tribunals, professional hearings, county court and other legal processes relating to employment matters. They will also contribute to advice and training for NEU caseworkers on matters relating to employment law.

The successful applicant will need to be a qualified solicitor or have equivalent experience, together with detailed knowledge and understanding of employment law relating to NEU members at work and in casework practice and litigation. They will also need to demonstrate sound knowledge of employment law and ability to advise regional/wales solicitors, other caseworkers etc.

They will also need to have experience of successfully delivering to agreed objectives and priorities, including planning, managing and delivering a range of activities (including training) to critical deadlines. For this reason, they will need to have polished communications skills and be able to produce high quality and accessible written communications on detailed and complex issues for a range of audiences.  For example, policy documents, advice and guidance documents on complex legal matters, casework and litigation materials, responses to government consultative documents, campaign and training materials;

We offer good conditions including a commencing salary of £55,368 pa plus a non-superannuable luncheon allowance currently set at £1,005, 35 days annual leave plus 4 days paid additional holiday entitlement as the NEU office closure days at Christmas and a final salary pension scheme. Salary, annual leave and office closure days will be pro-rata, for part-time applicants.
