About us

If you live here, work here or just visit, you will already know Reading is a great place and at Reading Borough Council we’re dedicated to making it even better. Key to this is ensuring our workforce is equipped for the challenge – this is where you come in.

About the role

Following the retirement of a senior member of the Contracts Team and wishing to add resilience to the legal section to deliver the challenging corporate contract work, we have an opportunity for a Solicitor to join our team at Reading Borough Council.

We are looking to appoint a Principal Contract Solicitor to join the Contracts Team in the Legal Services Section. The work is varied and challenging and this is an opportunity to consolidate and broaden your general commercial experience.

About you

In addition to managing a team of solicitors the main role of this post is the preparation of contracts for the wide range of services which the Council purchases and JCT and other types of standard construction and works contracts and the provision of advice on Contract and Procurement Law including the Public Contract Regulations 2015.

Our offer

We offer a supportive environment to grow and develop your career with the opportunity to put your ideas across. Innovation and ambition is strongly encouraged, and you’ll get a great feel for that working in our friendly and collaborative environment.

A competitive salary alongside a range of benefits including:

  • Local Government Pension Scheme
  • 24 days holiday plus public holidays (rising to 32 after service)
  • Childcare voucher scheme
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Season ticket loans
  • A range of local discounts
  • Flexible working considered upon completion of probation.
