Cardiff Council has a Lexcel accredited successful in house Legal Service based at County Hall in Cardiff Bay with good public transport links and a staff restaurant. 

We have specialist lawyers carrying out litigation, procurement, property, planning, governance, childcare and adult social services work, and aim to provide our clients with an excellent and comprehensive service. Our most recent client survey showed that 88.9% of our clients are satisfied or more than satisfied with our service.  
We seek high calibre candidates with an interest in local government, relevant experience, the ability to manage staff and advise senior officers and politicians and who are able to deal with a varied and demanding workload.
We expect the individuals appointed to take personal responsibility for delivering excellence, to work with others to achieve the best possible outcomes, to embrace change and new opportunities, to make the most of the resources available and to think and act in the best interests of the Council.
The Councils Flexi Time policy does not apply however, these posts are open to individuals who wish to have flexible working patterns, subject to meeting the needs of our clients and having mutual regard to the working arrangements of existing team members.

Principal Solicitor (or equivalent legal qualification/experience) Litigation (OM2)

Experienced Solicitor or Barrister (or equivalent) to lead and manage the Council’s Litigation team, to be a member of and contribute to the Directorate Management Team, deputise for the Director of Legal and Governance (including as Deputy Monitoring Officer if requested to do so) and be the employment law lead for the Council. The post will include giving advice, preparation of applications for Court and will include advocacy and attendance at decision making meetings of elected councillors.
The successful applicant must have experience of local government law and employment work, and the ability to motivate and manage staff and develop work systems and processes with the team.
The salary range for this post is £45,639 - £55,130 with a supplementary payment for acting as the Deputy Monitoring Officer if requested.
