Venn Group's Specialist Legal Team is excited to be recruiting for a Research Contracts Manager to join one of Britain's largest centres for postgraduate teaching and applied research. The University are based in the Northern Home Counties and their academic and research staff work both nationally and internationally on research and development for the benefit of 1,500 organisations each year.

This excellent opportunity offers a salary of £32,500 – £36,500 per annum with additional performance related pay up to £45,499 and includes a number of other employee benefits.

The department that you will be working in supports researchers in working together to achieve excellence and delivering on the University's vision for research and innovation. The primary focus of the work will be enabling the research activities of the University whilst mitigating and protecting against contractual risk.

Primary responsibilities of the position will be to:

- Review and negotiate a diverse portfolio of research and consultancy contracts and agreements for national and international clients on behalf of the University, based on non-standard terms and conditions, ensuring they comply with current legislation and internal policies and procedures, protecting the University from unreasonable risks. Manage and maintain records to provide a clear audit trail and accessibility for management information.

- Preparing and editing research and consultancy contracts and agreements based around University model documents or modify previously accepted documents to ensure that they are relevant and effective so as to create enforceable legal rights to protect the University.

- Working pro-actively with employees at all levels across the University and with external stakeholders to ensure that research and consultancy contracts and agreements are correctly understood and that risks are mitigated.

- Keeping abreast, through personal research, of legal and compliance developments affecting the University, and with best practice in other universities.

This position is suited to Contracts Specialists who are keen to develop their knowledge as part of a small, knowledgeable team within a new department. It is essential that you possess either a Law Degree or significant practical legal experience working in a large/diverse organisation and line management experience.
