Job Details
Role Purpose: To conduct a caseload of Public Law cases with particular focus on Court of Protection work.
Key Responsibilities:
• To conduct a high volume caseload of matters on behalf of clients as directed and in accordance with the firm’s file management and supervisory policy
• To maintain a diary and bring up entries in accordance with the firm procedures
• Effective use of case management system, databases and normal office IT systems
• Identifies efficiencies that can be made across work area to improve ways of working
• Detailed knowledge of legal aid field, its forms and procedures
• Compliance within SRI and other regulatory frameworks including but not limited to Money Laundering Procedures and the Data Protection Act
• Participation in the development, marketing and success of the Public Law Department
• Maintains and develops communication between other fee earners, staff and representatives from own function/division and wider Simpson Millar group
• Builds and grows links to external organisations
• Provides training to external organisations
• Case supervision of more junior staff, though this is not line management responsibility
Experience / Knowledge / Qualifications
• Detailed knowledge of health and welfare Court of Protection work essential
• Links to referrers of Court of Protection work preferable but not essential
• Experience of public law, community care work and education preferable but not essential Experience of legal aid and CCMS preferable but not essential
• Good personal organisation and ability to adhere to strict time limits
• Strong interpersonal skills
• The ability to deal with individuals from all walks of life
• The ability to prioritise work when necessary
• The ability to provide the highest standards of client care
• To maintain a diary and bring up entries in accordance with the firm procedures
• A willingness to participate in the development, marketing and success of the Department and Firm
