Job Details

Are you our next Solicitor in our highly successful International Personal Injury Team in Birmingham?

This is a role where you will act exclusively for individuals who have sustained serious injuries as a result of accidents abroad. The team deals with employers’ liability, package holiday, cruise, RTA, clinical negligence and public liability matters. We pride ourselves on making a real difference and helping people to live a life as full as possible after a serious injury. This is litigation of the most challenging nature and regularly involves making new law or pushing the boundaries of existing law as the cases concerned deal with complex issues of cross border litigation including applicable law, liability and jurisdictional arguments.

These claims are based in negligence, breach of contract, misrepresentation and breach of statutory duty. A key understanding of all of these areas will be essential to the successful prosecution of claims on behalf of Claimants.

Irwin Mitchell is one of the few firms to offer a rare opportunity to specialise in this high profile, and deeply rewarding area of personal injury law.

As a Solicitor in a growing team you will play an integral role in the team, running a caseload of multitrack cases, and working together with Senior Case Handlers on complex cases where appropriate, to deliver an outstanding client experience and progress litigation. You will be responsible for progressing your own caseload. You will work independently under supervision and as part of a team to progress cases in accordance with the department’s procedures to meet agreed personal targets and will also supervise and mentor others within the team. You will liaise regularly with a wide range of clients and medical professionals, in person, over the phone and in writing. Many of our clients have suffered catastrophic injuries and the role will involve some travel to meet clients and family members and to attend Court hearings and conferences with experts and / or counsel.

We are looking for enthusiastic and committed applicants, who can demonstrate that they will thrive on working in a busy environment. We are looking for candidates with at least five years’ experience in claimant multi track PI claims. It will be helpful (not essential) if suitable candidates have experience of international cases involving elements of foreign law and/or cross border disputes. Foreign language skills would also be helpful, but are not essential.

Candidates will need to have excellent client care and communication skills. The successful candidate will need to show that they can cope well under pressure and maintain excellent time management skills, with the ability to multi-task and keep to tight deadlines.

This is an Associate level role.

The Benefits

In addition to your basic salary we have a competitive benefits package including pension, critical illness cover, health cash plan, death in service, discounted legal services, 25 days hols (this increases with length of service), discounted online shopping, discounted gym memberships and season ticket loans.
