Lawyer (Procurement and Contract)

Permanent - Full time

£45,288 - £47,274 (PO5)

Hackney is London's most diverse and dynamic borough. Stretching from the edge of the City, to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, it is an area of rapid economic growth, particularly in the tech, media, fashion and other creative industries. Hackney has more green space than any other inner London borough, some of the capital's best schools, and first class transport connections, which combined with excellent local public services and a thriving arts, cultural and retail sector, are fast making it one of London's most popular areas to live, work and visit. The challenge for Hackney is to make sure that the borough's economic growth provides benefits for everyone who lives here, and to create opportunities that will transform the lives of local people.

Hackney’s legal team enables and supports the Council to provide an effective and value-for-money service. The borough’s procurement and contract lawyers sit within the Legal Business and Growth Team and provide clear, consistent and accurate legal advice to clients throughout the Council. An opportunity has arisen in the procurement and contract legal team for a qualified lawyer.

We need an experienced procurement and contract lawyer to join our committed team to deal with a mix of procurement and commercial work. The successful candidate would be expected to provide legal advice on a wide range of procurement, contract and public law matters including ad hoc project work.  This is a challenging role that involves taking responsibility for a mixed caseload and providing proactive legal advice to every part of the Council’s operations.

We are looking for a qualified Solicitor or Barrister or Fellows of the Institute of Legal Executives with post-qualification experience, working in local authority would be advantageous but is not essential.

You must have strong negotiation and drafting skills together with the credibility to influence people at the highest level and from all backgrounds.

At Hackney, we go that extra mile for our people; we offer a work environment which is stimulating, fast moving and supportive, giving you the chance to use your skills and develop new ones within a high profile organisation. If you share our values and are ready to be part of our exciting journey please visit our websitewww.hackney.gov.uk/jobs-careers to apply.

Please refer to the Job Description and Person Specification.

It is essential that you include a supporting statement and CV, addressing how your skills, knowledge and experience meet all the aspects of the post, as indicated in the job description and person specification. You may wish to use the Personal Specification when structuring this.

We are passionate about equal opportunities and welcome a diversity of talent to apply.

Closing date: Sunday 14 April 2019 (22:59 hrs)

Hackney Council works to eradicate discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy and maternity, age and marital status. We also recognise that people can be disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances, so we will also work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class. We also welcome those interested in flexible working.

We particularly welcome applications from disabled people, as this group is currently under represented in our workforce.

We are also working towards our vision, which is to be a place for everyone; where residents and staff can be proud; a place that celebrates diversity and where everyone can feel valued, included and involved. In order to achieve this, we look for people who are: Proud; Ambitious; Pioneering; Open; Proactive; Inclusive.
