External Assessor, Individual Accreditations

The Law Society represents solicitors in England and Wales. From negotiating with and lobbying the profession's regulators, government and other decision makers, to offering training and advice, we're here to support and promote solicitors.

The Law Society operates a number of accreditations to set and maintain professional standards in specific areas of law. The standard is achieved by the Law Society and Chief Assessors working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including members.

We are recruiting for Assessors for the following accreditations:

  • Immigration Law Advanced
  • Mental Health Accreditation
  • Mental Capacity Accreditation
  • Family Law Accreditation
  • Children Law Accreditation



The Assessors are responsible for assessing applicants for accreditation against the accreditation standard. Assessors will receive payment for each assessment carried out.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Established knowledge and practicing experience in the area(s) of law covered by the accreditation scheme
  • Awareness of specific developments in legislation in England and Wales that may have an impact on the scheme
  • Ability to be objective and discuss issues constructively
  • Problem-solving skills to find solutions to problems that require a pragmatic or practical response
  • Articulate and strong written and verbal communicator
  • Excellent attention to detail and effective time management
  • IT literate
