CQS Training Assessor Role

The Law Society's Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS) provides a recognised quality standard for residential conveyancing practices.

We are seeking a solicitor to sit on an independent panel of Assessors responsible for assessing the quality of all mandatory CQS training against quality assurance principles. Applications are welcomed from all members of the Law Society, irrespective of their current role, but applicants must be currently working within the residential conveyancing sector.

The function of the CQS Training Assessor Panel is to provide advice and guidance to the Law Society's staff in respect of the mandatory training modules that form a major part of CQS. Assessors are expected to work independently and assess online training against a set of quality assurance principles the training must meet in order to be authorised by the Law Society.

The role is performed remotely and on an ad hoc basis. We expect the role to be most busy throughout Spring and Summer where an Assessor can be expected to assess around 4 training courses. An average assessment takes around half a day.

Duties of the CQS Training Assessor will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Assessing content and delivery of online training against quality assurance principles. A thorough and up to date knowledge of residential conveyancing is essential.
  • Evaluating the extent to which a training course meets the requirements and providing evaluative feedback
  • Maintaining objectivity and independence from the Law Society at all times
  • Consider appeals of other Assessors decisions which may be made
  • Undertake mystery shopping at the request of the Law Society
  • Ensuring the training modules remain relevant to CQS member firms.
  • Identification of issues/problems with any training modules supplied and to provide a basis for potential solutions to those problems.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience

The successful candidate(s) will be able to demonstrate:

  • An active working knowledge and experience of CQS and preferably be employed within a CQS accredited practice or have relevant active involvement in the scheme and its practices.
  • A deep understanding of current regulation, legislation and best practice within the residential conveyancing market and an understanding of the CQS Protocol
  • A deep understanding of the risks involved in conveyancing
  • The ability to analyse and evaluate content against a defined set of principles and provide succinct and reasoned decisions on assessments
  • Integrity and objectivity

This is a paid position (c£180 per assessment).
